This compact describes the responsibilities of the school and the rights and responsibilities of parents and students. The school shall: Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment. Build and develop a partnership with parents to help children achieve the state’s high standards. Seek and include parents in decision-making. Ensure that communication between teachers and parents is ongoing through the following: Holding parent-teacher conferences at least annually, during which the compact shall be discussed Reporting to parents at least monthly on their child’s progress Providing reasonable access to staff during non-instructional times Providing opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and observe classroom activities Providing written school communications in a format and, to the extent practicable, in a language parents can understand Educate parents in ways that they can support their child’s learning by: Monitoring attendance and advising parents when absences are interfering with their child’s learning Providing meaningful homework assignments in which parents can participate Holding parent/students academic events that provide opportunities for parents to interact with their child in learning activities Providing workshops and presentations for parents to further develop parenting skills Holding school events and meetings at varied times to encourage parent participation The parent/guardian shall: Ensure that the Code of Conduct of the Santa Fe Public Schools is followed by all members of the family. Act as the leader of the family concerning supervision and education of their child, include Committing to regular school attendance and punctuality for their child. Supporting their child’s learning by monitoring homework/schoolwork completion Engaging their child in positive, learning activities, and environments during out-of-school time Establishing a time and place for their child to do homework without interruption or distraction Monitoring their child’s engagement in television viewing and video gaming Knowing the whereabouts of their child at all times Engaging actively with their child’s friends and their families Being available to meet with administrator or teacher when requested Actively engage in the school by: Attending school events and meetings, whenever practicable Seeking clarification when any school communication is unclear Participating in school decision-making opportunities, whenever practicable All parties accept this document as a good-faith effort to promote the success of the student.
